Planning: Print Project - design drawings

The above are our designs for the album artwork (cover, back and two inside pages) and advertisement for the album.

To create these drawings, each design was first outlined and filled out in pencil:

Coloured pen (black and red) were then added to create the final designs.

Album Cover -

The cover of the album is basically a close up shot of the artist. In this shot, we are going to use red face paint to design the logo on the artists face, then add in the name of the album later using the computer.

Middle Pages -

This is a basic outline of the two inside pages of the album booklet. The right hand side of this double page will be a montage of photos showing the artist on location, in the studio, during makeup and in between shooting: a more natural look into the shooting process. The tree in the middle of the page shows the artist sitting on a branch (now on the left hand page) with legs dangling and looking downwards. Here we have a thank you page from the artist to people who have helped with/bought the album, followed by the artists signature at the end, adding a further personal touch. The top of the page is still quite 'wood-like' in design as it shows branches/leaves in the background.

As inspiration for what the montage page will actually look like, I looked at the album artwork in the Florence and the Machine album 'Lungs' -

On this page, each picture blends into the next and there is no clear break between and of the images. This is similar to what we will hopefully achieve with our page.

Back Cover -

The back cover of the album shows the track list, along with details of the artist (record company and website). The image on this cover is a long shot (from the studio shoot) of the artist playing a guitar, fitting with the genre of music.

Album Advertisement -

We plan to take the photo for the advertisement on location - with the artist sat cross legged on the ground in the middle of the forest, with her guitar. This therefore links to both the music video for the single 'Black Horse and the Cherry Tree' (making it instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen said music video) but also the genre of music. The artists logo is present at the top left hand corner of the advert, as is the name of the album, release date and a small size image of the album cover at the bottom left hand side.
