Research: Ideology

Going off the lyrics for the song we're using, we can draw a few basic ideologies.

{Two, three, four}

(woo-hoo, woo-hoo) [throughout the whole song]

Well my heart knows me better than I know myself
So I'm gonna let it do all the talking.
I came across a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.

I felt a little fear upon my back
He said "Don't look back, just keep on walking."
When the big black horse said, "Hey lady!"
{When the big black horse said, "Look this way"}
Said, "Look this way, will you marry me?"
{Said, "Hey, lady, will you marry me?"}

But I said no, no, no, no-no-no
I said no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no-no-no
I said no, no, you're not the one for me

And my heart hit a problem, in the early hours,
So I stopped it dead for a beat or two.
But I cut some cord, and I shouldn't have done it,
And it won't forgive me after all these years

So I sent it to a place in the middle of nowhere
With a big black horse and a cherry tree.
Now it won't come back, 'cause it's oh so happy
And now I've got a hole for the world to see

And it said no, no, no, no-no-no
Said no, no, you're not the one for me
No, no, no, no-no-no-no
Said no, no, you're not the one for me

{Not the one for me}

Said no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
You're not the one for me
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
You're not the one for me

(do, do, do, do)

Well I was
Big black horse and a cherry tree
I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
Big black horse and a cherry tree
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
No, no, no, no
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
No, no, no, no
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
I can't quite get there cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me
(Big black horse and a cherry tree) I can't quite get there 'cause my heart's forsaken me

The basic idea of "following your heart" and "doing what feel is right" come through strongly in the lyrics, however through our video we could apply more complex, dominant ideologies that are present throughout other media texts.

We have to keep in mind the conventions of a typical acoustic rock music video as well as being aware of the conventions of a generic music video. In acoustic rock videos, few dominant or alternative ideologies are present, even in the acoustic rock love songs (where the most common ideology for love is "love conquers all".) As our video is performances based and there is no narrative present, few ideologies can be drawn from the footage we will shoot. This lack of ideology present, will link heavily to other acoustic rock videos, it will also please acoustic rock audiences as they are used to seeing their artist playing an instrument or at least singing. There is one thing that we can definitely say for certain - our artist will not be promoting or displaying alternative ideologies such as "drugs are good" and this would not fit the iconography or representation of the artist, as well as not fitting to the conventions of acoustic rock.

EDIT
Although we are now using narrative in our video, ideologies are still not a prominent part of the video. However, we do not intend to use any alternate ideologies so the video would still be classed as mainstream.
