These following conventions are from the opinions of Pete Fraser and Andrew Goodwin, as you can see they are similar and in some cases the same to what we found.
- The lyrics establish a general feeling or mood through the video; they create a relationship with the visuals on screen, whether they illustrate or contradict what is happening visually.
- the pace of the editing corresponds with the tempo and pace of the music track.
- The genre of music can easily be shown throughout the footage, through the use of editing, mise en scene, cinematography and themes, however some media videos transcend genre and do not follow these rules.
- The way the camera is used has significant impacts on the meaning of the video, these shots need to be analysed.
- One of the most common forms of editing is a fast paced montage which allows multiple viewings by audiences as it's difficult to process the majority of the video at once.
- There are also likely to be intertextual references to other music videos or film and TV.
